Badger Balm Lip Tint & Shimmer
Best Of, Earth Friendly, Hot Lips - Comments (0) - September 1st, 2010

I totally heart Badger Balm products. I have …many. The latest Badger lip products to join the crowd are the Lip Tint & Shimmers. These little gems rock! If you love tinted lip balm (and I do!), you will want to check these out.

The Lip Tint & Shimmer is two products in one: a tinted lip balm on one end and a shimmery lip balm on the other. Both are based on Badger’s always-popular Cocoa Butter Lip Balm formula (a personal favorite), with no added fragrance. The lip tint side is colored with mineral colorants, no dyes. Application is sheer, despite how dark they look in the tube, and easy – no mirror needed for goof-proof application.

There are four shades, and I have three. I have Garnet, Red Jasper, and Rose Tourmaline, and the fourth is Copper. Rose Tourmaline is the lightest, a pink color. Garnet and Red Jasper are very similar reddish shades – Garnet is more cool and Red Jasper is warmer. I don’t have Copper, but it looks like a brownish color. The Opal shimmer is essentially colorless, but adds a bit of sparkle.

These have pushed out other tinted lip balms to become my favorite. I love the cocoa butter formula, I love the subtle but flattering shades, and I like that they are two products in one. Another Badger Win!

New Luscious Lush Products!
Body Care, Earth Friendly, Shopping - Comments (1) - July 13th, 2010

I love it when Lush releases new products! There’s always SOMETHING I just have to have, and this new batch of products is no exception. Check it out!

First we have the Brimstone scrub, a new square-shaped solid scrub bar for use in the shower. Brimstone contains sulpher (to exfoliate and soften skin), as well as hemp oil and kaolin. It’s scented with jasmine and lemongrass, which sounds utterly fascinating. I’m intrigued…

The Glorious Mud scrub I suspect is going to be a MUST-HAVE because it has the same scent as my beloved Creme Anglaise. It also has aloe and sesame oil and rhassoul mud. Me want!

Lush’s newest shower gel is Grass, and I want some! Grass contains fresh wheatgrass juice to nourish the skin, and is scented with bergamot and sandalwood. I can’t wait to give it a sniff, since I’m sure I’ll love it.

Which new Lush product is on YOUR list?

Loving My Badger Balm
Body Care, Earth Friendly, Hot Lips - Comments (0) - March 3rd, 2010

deskgop14Badger Balm, one of my favorite companies ever, has some new lip products that I really want. They also have a newer Headache Balm that I’m totally loving, and I still want to try the newer Body Butters too.

The new lip products are Tinted Lip Balms with a tint on one end and a shimmer on the other. They are so pretty! There are four shades – Copper, Garnet, Red Jasper, and Rose Tourmaline. I want them all! The formula is their super-awesome Cocoa Butter Lip Balm formula, tinted with mineral colors. I can’t wait to try these! I think I’ll have to place on order…

The Headache Soother balm is perfect for calming down a wicked tension headache, and has the additional benefit of helping to clear your sinuses (for those sinus headaches!). I’m finding that a dab on each temple, and little under my nose, and a generous amount rubbed on the back of my neck to be very helpful in sending a headache packing – or at least a pounding headache to a dull roar. This balm was great during the last nasty cold I had. Now I carry it with me in my purse. It also does double-duty as a cuticle balm!

I also want to try the Every Day Moisturizers… one or two might find their way into that Lip Tint order…

EcoTools 6 Piece Eye Brush Set
Earth Friendly, Makeup Fun - Comments (1) - February 10th, 2010

EcoTools, makers of some of my favorite makeup brushes ever, have introduced a six piece eye brush set to perfectly apply eye makeup. When I worked at a store that sold makeup (rhymes with “menorah”), one of the most common requests we received was to show clients how to apply their eye makeup with brushes.

Ecotools has created some video tutorials that I think really nicely demonstrate how to best use their brushes to achieve the two most commonly requested eye looks: the smoky eye and the cat eye.

The brushes used in the cat eye video can be found in the six-piece brush set, or you can purchase them individually.

The smoky eye video uses the new eye brush set. I really like the brushes a lot and have worked them into my makeup routine. If you are looking for an afforable, yet good quality brush set, pick one of these up! I give EcoTools two enthusiastic thumbs up!

Alicia Silverstone for EcoTools
Earth Friendly - Comments (3) - January 30th, 2010

cb-ecotrainI love good cosmetic bags. I have quite a few, because I’m a total sucker for them, so it was with no small anticipation that I checked out the new bags from EcoTools. EcoTools partnered with vegan actress Alicia Silverstone to design the bags, and the result is a line of functional yet pretty cosmetic bags (and a brush set).

There are three cosmetic bags, a brush bag, and a five piece brush set with a brush bag. My favorite bag hands down is the Train Case. Its got a lot of inner room, and the best part is the removal clear bag tucked up in the top of the bag. The cosmetic bag and the overnight bag are pretty cool too, and the overnight bag has removal inner bags as well.

All the bags are made out of a very sturdy hemp material, and lined with recycled plastic. The hangtags on each product are even made with tree-free stone paper! These are very eco-friendly bags.

The brush set is great! It includes a blush brush, lash & brow groomer, angled eye shadow brush, and a finishing brush. I love the EcoTools blush brush, and the angled eye shadow brush has become a new favorite in my arsenal. The finishing brush is nice for dusting on powders like highlighters or some of my various sparkly powders. The set does duplicate some of the other brush sets offered by EcoTools but I still think it’s worth it for the awesome travel case it comes with and the eye shadow brush.

You can find these bags at Target, Walgreens, Ulta, and Drugstore.com.

Yes To Carrots Lip Butter
Earth Friendly, Makeup Fun - Comments (0) - January 27th, 2010

cb-lipbutterI’ve been wondering about Yes To Carrots for a while now. I see them at New Seasons Market, at Target, and online, so I’m really happy to have the opportunity to really check out the products! First up, is the Lip Butter, a certified organic lip balm that comes in yummy flavors.

Yes To Carrots is committed to creating paraben-free products by utilising nature’s best kept secrets: rejuvenating Dead Sea mud minerals, combined with the antioxidant and youth-enhancing properties of Beta-Carotene, a natural form of Vitamin A. All products in the range are derived from organic carrots and other fruits and vegetables, so they are 100% natural and packed with goodness.

The lip butter contains such yummies as olive oil, jojoba oil, beeswax, shea butter, pumpkin seed extract and carrot root extract. It comes in five flavors: mint, berry, melon, citrus, and carrot. So far melon and carrot are my favorites!

The staying power is quite good, and the formula stays pretty solid even when I keep it in my pocket. It’s also certified organic, which is something I appreciate a lot. Overall, I give Yes To Carrots Lip Butter two thumbs up!

More Yes To Carrots reviews to come!

Boots Botanics Organic Rich Body Butter
Body Care, Cheap Thrills, Earth Friendly - Comments (0) - September 24th, 2009

cb-botanicsbodyBesides Kiehls, there’s another super-rich body butter rocking my world lately: Boots Botanics Organic Rich Body Butter. It doesn’t have the OMG scent of Kiehls Imperial, but it has its own benefits. Read on for the scoop!

The Botanics Rich Body Butter cotains such lovely plant oils as murumuru butter, shea butter, olive oil, jojoba oil, and more. As far as I can tell, the product itself isn’t certified organic, but the label claims it contains 81% certified organic ingredients and there are little stars next to those ingredients in the list. It doesn’t contain any mineral oils or petrolatum, but rather soothes and softens the skin with that slew of plant oils. It also has bergamot, geranium, and rose essential oils, which add a very soothing herbal scent.

The butter is definitely thick and rich. I love how it leave my skin feeling very soft all day long. A little goes a long way, otherwise you run the risk of feeling a little greasy. The scent is quite herbal, which I don’t find objectionable, but probably isn’t going to be everybody’s bag. It does fade pretty quickly, and the lack of synthetic fragrance is nice for those who try to avoid them.

Overall, I’m very much liking this product, and at $13.99 at drugstore.com, you really can’t beat the price for such a rich cream. If you suffer from dry skin and want a bargain solution, grab a jar of Boots Botanics Organic Rich Body Butter and slather it on.
