Review: LashFusion
Mascara, Reviews - February 26th, 2007

MascaraThis is my final review of Fusion Beauty LashFusion. LashFusion, you disappoint me. I wore it faithfully for a month (as per my promise) and I’m just not loving it at all. It is nothing more, in my humble opinion, than a decent mascara. It’s not worth the price tag, if you ask me.

It wore okay, although it did occasionally drop fibers on my cheeks. It mostly didn’t smudge, but if I got hot (like from doing a lot of heavy lifting) it would. I didn’t notice any difference in the quality or health of my lashes.

So… my verdict? Move along, folks. There’s nothing to see here.

5 Perfumes I Want Right Now
5 Things, Perfume - February 26th, 2007

Michael Kors1. Michael Kors Eau de Toilette, because it reminds me that summer is coming. (It was snowing on the way home, tonight!)

2. Michael Kors Island Hawaii EDP, for the same reason. Also, I love the strong neroli note.

3. Bvlgari Rose Essentielle Gift Set, which contains a 1 oz. EDP and a candle. I adore this rose scent. It reminds me of something from my childhood, although I can’t put my finger on what.

4. Any of the new perfume oils from The Body Shop. I haven’t actually sniffed them yet, but I’m sure I’ll like one of them. I love wearing these, they last all day long.

5. Midnight Pomegranate EDT. I have a little body spray, but I’m seriously loving this scent and I want something stronger.

New Scents To Drool Over
Perfume - February 21st, 2007

Amazing GraceI was never a big fan of the original Amazing Grace fragrance – it was too soapy to me. The new roll-on is another story. I love it! It seems a little less soapy and a little more floral than the original EDT. I also really love roll-on fragrances. The Falling In Love roll-on is floating my boat too, although I’ve always loved that scent. It reminds me of warm fresh blackberries (which grow wild here in Oregon, and we pick some every summer), and I know Hubby would love it. I really need to get some at some point!

I’m also loving the new Love Bird scent from Nanette Lepore. It’s supposed to be a citrus and black currant scent, with rose, muguet, jasmine, and carnation, and bottom notes of amber and musk. I get the amber and musk in the drydown, but to me the first thing I noticed was a strong honey scent. How odd our noses work! It smelled so edible, and just like honey to me. At any rate, I’m liking it a lot. Since it’s only in 3.4 oz size this isn’t one I’m likely to buy (it would take me forever to use up a 3.4 oz fragrance), but I’ll wear it at work. *grin*

Violet Berry
Body Care, Color News - February 19th, 2007

Violet Berrymark. has introduced a new scent to their Self Sanctuary line:Violet Berry. Have I mentioned how much I love violet scented products?? The Self Sanctuary Body Butter is a great product – I’ve tried the Fig Basil (sadly discontinued) and the White Tea Vanilla (delish!) and I want to try the Lemon Sugar. Now I’ll have to add the Violet Berry to that list.

Speaking of mark., how cute is this little palette? I’m thinking the Milan or the New York would be just the thing for me.

Beauty When You’re Sick
Makeup Fun - February 17th, 2007

Sick PersonI’ve been sick this week, with some kind of sniffling, sneezing, stuffy head and chest kind of thing. I haven’t felt so bad that I called out of work, although I did go home early today.

So, the topic of today’s beauty tip is Looking Your Best When You Feel Like Poop. We’ve all been there – the ghostly pallor, the tired eyes.

First, let’s tackle complexion. My favorite product for perking things up is Stila Illuminating Tinted Moisturizer. The illumination can really brighten up otherwise dull-looking skin. If you want more coverage than a tinted moisturizer offers, trying mixing some Smashbox Artificial Light into your liquid foundation. Or, if you are a powder foundation gal, try Becca Pressed Shimmer Powder dusted over the planes of your face (cheekbones, bridge of nose) for some extra “glow.”

If you are prone to flushing or redness in the cheeks when you’re sick (from fever, or whatever) skip the blush and use some bronzer on your cheeks instead. Bronzer will give you some color and contour to your face without adding to the redness. My favorites are Cargo Medium or Laura Geller Bronze and Brighten.

If your eyes are tired-looking, avoid the darker colors. If you want to wear eyeshadow, think soft neutrals, with something light in the inner corners to brighten things up. I usually just skip eyeliner because my eyes water when I sneeze and it just ends up smudging, and I wear waterproof (or waterproofed with She Laq) mascara – again because of the smudging.

I’m more prone to dehydration when I’m sick and my lips get chapped. So I wear Smith’s Minted Rose salve on my lips instead of a gloss or lipstick. It’s softly pink, and keeps my lips happier.

Remember to drink lots of water and try to get more sleep than usual. Hopefully, you’ll feel better fast! (I hope I do… this is getting tiresome.)

Trying Something New: MD Skincare
Skin Care - February 12th, 2007

Alpha Beta Daily Face PeelsI am so excited try the MD Skincare Alpha Beta Daily Face Peel, starting today! Everyone at work who has tried them loves them, and I got a 30 day pack in gratis. Yay! I will report after a month on what I think of them.

I also snagged a sample of Borba Clarifying Facial Cleanser to try. I think I’m really going to like it, but I wanted to try a sample first. My bottle of Cosmedicine Healthy Cleanse is almost empty and I’ll be needing a new cleanser soon. I’m also going to visit New Seasons (my favorite grocery) to see what they have.

New Stuff: Stila, DuWop
Color News - February 9th, 2007

StilaI finally had a chance to see the new Stila palettes at work tonight. I am in love with the Pretty Pansy eyeshadow trio – it’s actually even nicer in person than in the picture. The colors really pop.

The new Smokey Eye palette is certainly an interesting concept – the colors are very traditional for the smokey eye, and… it talks to you. No, I’m not kidding. You push a button on the lid and it plays a woman’s voice “walking” you through the process for creating a smokey eye. It’s neat, and a little weird at the same time.

DuWop’s new Lip Venom 2nd Sin is certainly floating my boat. There’s a lot to love: super-emollient oils like jojoba, sunflower, and avocado, Maxi Lip and Coolact to plump, pomegranate and white tea for their antioxidant values… and I adore the cooling feeling. I’m really wanting to purchase one of these.
