Fresh Cannabis Rose Perfume
Perfume, Reviews - March 22nd, 2008

Fresh Cannabis RoseI mentioned Fresh’s new perfume Cannabis Rose in a post on Valentine’s Gifts, and lo and behold, my dear sweet husband gifted me with a bottle for that special holiday. Hooray!

The notes are Bulgarian Rose, Pomegranate Flower, Bergamot, Cannabis Accord, Sheer Jasmine, Dark Chocolate, White Musk, Patchouli, and Oolong Tea. The overall effect reminds me of dirt and roses, which is actually a scent I’ve been after for years. It’s not a pretty-pretty rose, like Bvlgari’s Rose Essentielle, which incidentally I also own.

Rose Essentielle is lovely. It’s a sweet rose and the violet note just adds to the sweetness. The patchouli is barely there, just a hint of something rich to keep the scent from floating away. It’s super-feminine and clean.

Cannabis Rose, by contrast, is much darker and edgier. It really does remind of me of roses and dirt, like the fresh dirt you turn over in your garden on a spring day. This is a scent that a man could easily wear, as well as a woman. I’m not super-familiar with what cannabis really smells like (I’m a true square, yes I am) but I suspect it’s responsible for the green aspects of the perfume.

I really want the matching shower gel and body cream (although the price of the body cream is gasp-worthy). Maybe I’ll get the gift set, which is a steal at $45 – that way I can try the cream and shower gel, and have a purse size perfume.

Anyway, husband did good. We like.

Skin Like Butter
Body Care, Reviews, Shopping - March 21st, 2008

Skin Like ButterI recently had the opportunity to try a new brand of lotion from an independent bath & body company called Skin Like Butter. I really like the lotion so I wanted to share it with everyone!

The Shea Oil Lotion is super-rich and thick, but not greasy. It has other goodies like avocado oil and aloe vera in it, so it’s awesome for dry alligator skin like mine. There are several scents, but I have pikake, which is a great white floral scent. It doesn’t tickle my nose like so many floral scents do, but instead is just really feminine and pretty.

The price is good, just $10 for a big bottle of lotion. I love to support independent businesses, so I highly recommend Skin Like Butter and their awesome products!

Pretty Spring Makeup Shades
Makeup Fun - March 13th, 2008

The Body Shop BlushHow cute are these new blush palettes from The Body Shop? They’re shimmery, but very pretty on the skin. You can also use them separately on the eyes. Specifically for the eyes are the “shimmer buds,” eyeshadow duos in bright colors. I think the green/gray combo is probably the most wearable of the three, but I can’t help but be drawn to the blue/coral one.

I love this new cheek combo from Dior – it’s gawgeous! It’s super pretty in person too. Me want!

This eyeshadow trio from Stila is only available on their website – it’s the Pon Pon Gerbera trio, and it’s so pretty!

It’s not new, but I’m loving this Liquid Lip Color from Origins in Really Rosy. It’s a nice your-lips-but-better color for spring.

The new Fresh palette is beautiful too. I love the three eyeshadow colors and the cheek colors. My favorite thing about Fresh makeup is how soft and pigmented the shadows are. They are some of my favorites.

The colors this spring seem to be either bold and bright or soft and feminine. I’m not really feeling the bold and bright right now, so I’m definitely leaning towards the pinks and browns. Luckily, they look good on me!

A Slew of Body Care
Body Care - March 2nd, 2008

Makeup TableI know, I know. I’m a total bath and body care junkie. But I love to try new stuff and tell everyone all about the products that are really great (or totally stink, lol).

First up, I’m loving the Sephora brand Body Butters, in Tropical Jasmine and the new Lime Blossom. The tropical jasmine is heavy on the coconut, with a white floral aspect. Lime blossom is something of a misnomer in English – it actually refers to linden (tilleul in French) and has a clean, fresh scent that isn’t citrus-y at all. Linden is one of my favorite fragrances, and it’s pretty hard to find. What I really love about these body butters is the texture – it’s creamy and thick, but not too greasy. It’s definitely slather-able. They have a lot of shea butter as well as other butters, like mango butter, sal butter, kokum butter, illipe butter, cupuacu butter, and babassu oil. It’s pretty much all the best butters and oils you can pack into a jar.

Even though I’m not totally loving the scent, I have to give a thumbs up to Charity Pot from Lush. I love that the proceeds go to charity, and the lotion itself is thick and rich. It takes a little effort to massage it in completely (of course I do tend to slather product on, it probably sinks right in if you use less) but leaves the skin super-soft. The scent isn’t that bad, really, it just isn’t my favorite. It’s very herbal. Other recent acquisitions from Lush: All That Jas, which smells just like my beloved Silky Underwear, and The Comforter.

I love body scrubs. However, I’m rather picky about my scrubs – I don’t like them soupy with oil (major slip hazard) or too scratchy. A little oil is okay (I just squirt the shower floor with a little shower gel after scrubbing and it’s all good) and a good scent is a must. The Body Shop’s Cocont Scrub gets the thumbs up for having a good scrubbies in a creamy base – so not too oily – and the scent is amazing. I wish it came in a tube, though. It’s a little gloppy for scooping out of a jar. L’Occitane’s Honey & Lemon Sweet Sugar Scrub is delicious. You can actually see the little bits of lemon peel, and it has a wonderful scrubby yet soft texture. The scent is the best, sweet and tart.

Last but not least, I’m trying to take better care of my feet. I have some stinky feet, as embarrassing as that is to admit, and they get dry too. I picked up a container of T for Toes from Lush to try to control the odor and sweating – I really dislike the scent of tea tree oil, but I’m willing to try anything if it smells better than my feet, lol. I’m also regularly using L’Occitane’s Foot Cream at night to help with the dryness.
