Charity, Earth Friendly, Hot Lips - April 8th, 2011
You know, I wanted to like this product. There’s a lot to like. But I don’t. Here’s the scoop.
The product is Acure Organics Dark Chocolate + Mint Lip Balm. Acure Organics is “a family owned and operated company founded on sustainable principles to provide the highest quality fair trade, natural and certified organic personal care products. ” This part is good. They don’t test on animals, and they donate some of their profits to breast cancer research. This is all great!
The lip balm itself is called Dark Chocolate + Mint Lip Balm. I bought it specifically for this reason. It’s a nice enough formula, containing beeswax, olive oil, coconut oil, shea butter, cocoa butter, hemp seed oil, peppermint & spearmint essential oils, vitamin e, and cocoa powder. The high quantity of beeswax makes it a little draggy on my lips, which I don’t care for.
But what I’m really unhappy about is the fact that this is basically a MINT lip balm with nothing chocolate-y about it whatsoever other than the name and the fact that it contains a little cocoa butter. I don’t smell chocolate, I don’t taste chocolate. Nada. I’m really disappointed.
If you want a decent certified organic lip balm that’s minty (but not as minty as say, Burt’s Bees) and that’s a charity product, you’ll like Acure Organics’ lip balm. Me, I won’t buy it again. I think they cheated a little with the name. I will, however, check out other Acure products because I like their mission.
