Body Care, Cheap Thrills - April 11th, 2011
I have had the misfortune recently to have been troubled with very itchy, very dry skin. I slathered with my happy, all natural lotions, to no avail. So I grabbed the bottle of Curel Itch Defense Lotion I had sitting around and been ignoring for months and gave it a whirl. Whoa! Rash & itch & dryness has REALLY improved!
I don’t usually like lotions like Curel. It’s basically water, glycerin, and petrolatum. I generally prefer lotion to be vegetable oil based (like shea butter or olive oil) rather than petrolatum. Petrolatum basically just coats your skin and sits there, whereas the vegetable oils also have nutrients for your skin.
However, when my skin gets this dried out and itchy and rashy, the water and glycerin hydrates and the petrolatum seals it all in. THIS STUFF WORKS. I could feel it on my skin hours later, doing its hydrating and soothing thing. Basically, it’s awesome. It’s also CHEAP. You can slather from your neck to your toes and it won’t break the bank to go through a few bottles.
Of course, I am not a doctor blah blah blah, so if you have eczema or other skin conditions, check with the doc first. But if you have garden variety dry skin, do check out Curel Itch Defense. It’s pretty good stuff!

I don’t normally like lotions like this either, mostly because I can’t use glycerin. It makes me rashy, so that would defeat the purpose. lol I’m glad it’s helping though. Dryness and itching drives me nuts. Have you tried anything from Origins? When I would get super dry and itchy the only thing that would help me was this: http://www.origins.com/product/3814/10249/Bath-Body/Daily-Essentials/Body-Moisturizers/A-Perfect-World/Intensely-hydrating-body-cream-with-White-Tea/index.tmpl
Though I’ve been slathering my face and body with grapeseed oil and so far *knocks on wood* I haven’t had any dry skin issues like I normally do this time of year.
I’ve used other Origins stuff, and I like them. Sometimes though, I think my skin needs that layer of petrolatum to protect it. Bummer about glycerine, it’s a good moisturizer!
