Ode to Becca Blush
Best Of, Complexion - November 4th, 2007

Becca Cream BlushI really love Becca’s creme blush. I’ve only recently become a super-convert, so I figured it would be well worth writing about.

Becca is an Australian brand, really well known for offering high sunscreen foundations in a very wide range of colors. When I worked at the beauty store that carried it, I could almost ALWAYS find a foundation match for a client in Becca.

A few years ago, I was not a fan of cream blush. It made sense, since I wore powder foundation. Cream blush and powder foundation don’t play well together. When I started using a liquid foundation, I discovered how cool cream blush is.

To use a cream blush, dab your finger or a synthetic brush on the product, and then dab that on the apples of your cheeks. Blend well. Some brands, like Shiseido stick blush, go on very sheer. I go to town with that product (and I like it a lot). The Becca blush is super-concentrated, so less is definitely more. Go easy on it or you’ll get too much. Using a translucent powder on top is optional – for a dewy look, leave your face powder-free. If you’re anal about shine, like me, a light dust of powder on top of your cream blush won’t hurt.

So what’s the deal with Becca’s cream blush? It rocks. I have the shade Lotus, which looks like a crazy plum color in the pan. A few dabs on the cheeks, and it’s an amazingly realistic looking flush, at least for my skin tone. It does NOT fade during the day, at all. It is the rare blush that stays with me throughout the whole day. The fact that it isn’t a powder means it looks really natural on the skin. You could rock a no-makeup look with this product, for sure.

Becca has other products worth investigating. The powder eyeshadows are some of the most silky powder shadows I’ve ever encountered, with great color payoff. The shimmery powders are beautiful, and the brushes are crazy luxurious. You can also find it on Makeup.com now.

  1. [...] the limited edition Orchid Convertible Color. It looks scary dark purple in the pan, not unlike Becca’s Lotus,  but it’s a super-flattering pinky shade on the skin. It’s not TOO pink though, but [...]
