Perfume, Reviews - July 9th, 2009
We are a little late to this party, since Bond No. 9 Astor Place launched in April, but the bottle is so pretty and the scent is so nice that I still wanted to feature it – better late, than never!
Astor Place is a neighborhood in NYC, home to Tony Rosenthal’s “Alamo”, a rotating multi-ton sculpture at the corner of Lafayette Street and 8th Street known locally as “The Cube,” as well as theatres and elegant home furnishing shops.
Astor Place, the scent, is a fresh floral with violet leaf, mandarin zest, freesia, red poppy buds, iris root, teakwood, musk and amber. It’s very bright and springy, but also quite elegant. Astor Place is perfect for daytime, when you want something to match the mood of a cool summer morning, before the dew lifts. It reminds me of that clean feeling when you first step out of the shower on what you know is going to be a hot summer day – and you want that cool freshness to stay with you all day.

The surface design of the Astor Place flacon echoes the angles and cubes of the Rosenthal sculpture, but renders them in a range of triangles displaying the richest array of colors ever seen in the Bond No. 9 bottle repertory. These triangles also recall Astor Place’s lamp posts, curbs, and even cracks in the pavement which are lovingly decorated with mosaic tile shards by local denizens. Art abounds on Astor Place—and now it’s in liquid form too.
Bond No. 9 never fails to deliver a beautiful bottle with a lovely scent. If you have a chance to visit one of the boutiques, check it out in person! I’m sure it’s lovely, and I will be checking it out on my next trip to NYC, in September!
