EOTD: Winged Theo
Eyeshadow - Be the first to comment! - November 22nd, 2011

Today I felt like doing some green, so I used Black Rose Minerals’ Theo and Aromaleigh Winged Psyche. Then I decided what it really needed was green lips too, lol.

Theo is, of course, the best color ever. (LOL.) It’s a light fawn with a green duochrome and green sparkles, and if you don’t have it, get one during BRM’s sale this weekend. Winged Psyche is a sort of greenish-blueish color with some sparkles. Aromaleigh is apparently back, but after seeing a really snarky blog post (first edited, and then deleted) as well as snarky responses to customers on Facebook (also now deleted) I’m a little unsure what to think about them. I’m adopting a wait and see approach before I recommend them again. The highlight is the uber-fabulous Unicorn Pee from My Pretty Zombie.

My cheeks and lips today are from Evil Shades. The blush is Atomic, a hot orange with a blue shift. I love this color. The lip gloss is Hardcore Lips Dragons Wing, the epically epic dragon scale green with subtle gold shimmer and a silver to teal shift.

EOTD Pink Red Orange
Eyeshadow, Makeup Fun - Comments (3) - March 18th, 2011

I’ve been really trying to break out of my comfort zone lately and try new and different (for me, anyway) color combinations on my eyes. Today I was inspired by Marin’s awesome orange and green look to try using some orange myself. I wish I had a clever name for what I came up with, but alas. I’m not that clever.

I used Noella Beauty Works’ Pumpkin in the inner corners, Bokeh Face’s Flying Car in the middle of the lid, and Aromaleigh’s Strawberry Despair in the outer corners.

I’m sad that you can’t get Aromaleigh anymore, but the surge in amazing new indie shops is definitely making up for it. Both Noella Beauty Works and Bokeh Face come highly recommended by me!!

Who’s Got The Moxie?
Etsy, Eyeshadow, Hot Lips - Be the first to comment! - January 29th, 2011

I did a fun look for work today, it being a Friday and all. I decided to have fun with Moxie, an AWESOME hot pink color from Vicious Cosmetics. It’s a beast to photograph just how AWESOME it is, so you’ll have to take my word for it.

Moxie has a cool blue sparkle to it, not unlike the blue sparkle in one of my favorite Fyrinnae lip colors (that would be Puppy Love). I wore it with a mauvey-beige color, but I think it would be fabulous with a shell pink too.

Vicious Shadows wear really, really wear – very little fading after 10+ hours of wear over primer. I did touch up my makeup for these pictures, since it’s been more like 12 hours since I did my makeup this morning.

Eyes: Vicious Cosmetics Moxie, Aromaleigh Angel Bouquet, Fyrinnae Nijiro, Victoria’s Secret eyeliner (discontinued, it’s a purple with sparkle), Maybelline One By One Volum’Express Mascara. Cheeks: Larenim Blush in Forbidden Flush.

Lips: Fyrinnae Lip Lustre in Puppy Love.

Moxie is on my list of full-size shadows that are must haves!

Sneak Peek: Aromaleigh Victoria’s Revenge Eyeshadow Collection
Eyeshadow, Makeup Fun - Comments (2) - May 25th, 2010

Boy howdy am I happy to be sharing this with all of you: I was lucky enough to get to try out the new limited edition eyeshadow collection from Aromaleigh and it is awesome!! It’s called Victoria’s Revenge and has a gothic victorian steampunk nightmare theme that is dark, mysterious, and FUN!

After several attempts at getting my less-than-stellar camera to photograph the sample bags, I decided I’d point you to several other bloggers who have succesfully photographed the sample collection. Please visit Fresco Phyrra, or Lazy Beautiful, or Painted Moogle to get a look at all the shades laid out and swatched.

So far, I’ve tried Infernal Chaos (a taupe color on me) with Brazen & Bitter (coral-y red), a fabulous combination. Infernal Chaos is probably the least must-have color, unless you really love to collect taupe shades. Brazen & Bitter is probably going to be a must-have though, as it’s a very wearable red color – a lot of red eyeshadows make my eyes look bloodshot when they’re not. Not this one!

The pictures here are Mourning’s Whimsy (bright purple with blue and violet sparkle) with Poison Utopia (black with sparkle). I used Fyrinnae’s Nijiro on the brow bone, and black eyeliner. I LOVE Mourning’s Whimsy! This is a great sparkly purple color! Poison Utopia is a little more work – just a little bit chalky as black shades tend to be. Love the sparkles though. I’m using Fyrinnae’s Pixie Epoxy for the first time today as well, and I’m totally in love with it! The sparkles all stayed where they should and the colors are so much richer than with just primer alone. Love!

I can’t wait to try out the rest of the colors. I will try to get a picture of each combination to share. This beautiful collection is two thumbs up!

5 Things: Happy Beauty
5 Things, Eyeshadow, Hot Lips, Nails, Perfume - Comments (1) - May 25th, 2010

I’ve got a lot of stress going on in my life right now, job stress mostly, and fun beauty stuff always cheers me up. So this 5 Things is about the stuff I’ve found lately that is just perking up my day!

1. Shrek by OPI nail colors. I am just loving these fun, bright colors! I have Who The Shrek Are You? on my toes and I’m going to do a mani today with What’s With The Catittude?

2. Aromaleigh Victoria’s Revenge Limited Edition Eyeshadows – I was lucky enough to receive samples to review and share with all of you, and boy howdy are they GAWGEOUS! Expect multiple posts soon.

3. The new Badger Balm Lip Tints & Shimmers are so fabulous! These double-ended goodies boast beautiful sheer lip tints with ultra-moisturizing cocoa butter and olive oil. Love them!

4. FLOWERBYKENZO La Cologne is Kenzo’s newest fragrance, a citrus twist on the original FLOWERBYKENZO scent. I like the bitterness of the petitgrain paired with the powdery notes of the original. I’ll be reviewing this in full soon!

5. Fyrinnae’s new Lip Lustre shades are so pretty! I ordered Puppy Love and Ultra Phantom, and of course now I notice there are another FOUR new ones! Gah!! Next order, next order…

Bye-Bye 2009
Best Of - Be the first to comment! - January 1st, 2010

partyToday is the first day of 2010 and 2009 is gone gone gone! How else would a blogger start the New Year than with a Best Of post?

The Raspberry Body Butter from the Body Shop is still my favorite body cream, although Kiehl’s Imperial Body Balm is THISCLOSE to being first in my heart. Speaking of Kiehl’s, their Mascara wins the prize for my most-used mascara this year. I use it almost every day now.

The return of Hard Candy definitely tops my list of Great Makeup News. I’m still in love with the new baked-style eyeshadow duos.

2009 was my year to discover the awesomeness that is loose mineral (and mineral-style) eyeshadows. Aromaleigh, J. Lynne, Meow Cosmetics, Fyrinnae, and even Bare Escentuals all get my vote (and my money!).

Natural and organic beauty really hit the big time in 2009. I use my EcoTools brushes every day, and I’m constantly amazed at the expanded cosmetics aisles in stores like Whole Foods and my local New Seasons Market.

Lonestar Memories, Chanel No. 5 Eau Premiere, and Lisa Hoffman Japanese Agarwood top the list of my favorite new fragrances from 2009.

Favorite beauty moment? Shopping for cosmetics in NYC in September. Second favorite beauty moment? Deciding to cut my hair and wear it short (again).

What are your favorite things from 2009?

More Hauls: Aromaleigh, J. Lynne, Fyrinnae
Eyeshadow, Makeup Fun, Shopping - Comments (1) - November 7th, 2009

cb-aromahaulI’ve been a busy girl, happily ordering makeup to play with (and then write about, lol!) and my orders are here! W00t!

From Aromaleigh, I ordered full sizes of Strawberry Despair from the Gothic Lolita collection and Winged Psyche from Les Papillons. I also ordered a full size tube of Sweet Tart Nourishing Color Creme (also from the Gothic Lolita collection). I ordered two samples from Les Papillons, Flying Flower and Vigil of Change, and also received samples of Bete Noire Solange, Ozone and Destination Unknown from the Rocks! Collection, and a Nourishing Color Creme sample in Limbo.

I decided to order the sample set of the Japanese Garden collection eyeshadows from J. Lynne Cosmetics. I can’t wait to try them all out! I’m thinking Sakura, Mokuren, and Wakakusa look particularly awesome and I wore Mimoza and Seri together today (that’s a gold and sage-y pale green) and they were so pretty! I will try to get a photo of some of these soon. Unfortunately I didn’t have time to photograph my eyeshadow this morning. I’ll post a full review on this collection soon.

From Fyrinnae, I ordered samples sizes of Shinigami, Sumatran Tiger, Jaguar, Iberian Lynx, and a Lip Lustre in Bloodstains. I am really loving that Lip Lustre, and the greenish tinge of Sumatran Tiger seriously rocks! I need to try to get some eyeshadow pictures with these colors too. Shinigami is an AWESOME shade of purple.

I love new makeup! What have you ordered recently?

Halloween Eyeshadow (And Lippie) Fun!
Eyeshadow, Hot Lips, Shopping - Comments (2) - October 12th, 2009

My favorite indie makeup companies have introduced some super-fun eyeshadows for October and I really want them all! Such temptation…

skepticMeow Cosmetics has several fun collections for October. Dance of Death is the current collection of eyeshadow shades, with such fun names as Vampire, Dirt Nap, and Warlock (which also all happen to be colors I want). The Halloween Zombies collection features shades from past collections, and I want Skelecat (white with gold and green iridescence), and Banshee (very dark copper-burnished black with green iridescence and gold sheen). Also new this month are the Friday the 13th colors, which will be available during October, and on each Friday the 13th thereafter. Of those, Skeptic (bright periwinkle with copper and pink iridescent color changing fire), Accident (metallic copper lame with a dark undertone and gleaming metallic iridescent fire), and Cursed (soft sage green with golden red/orange highlights and color shifting blue fire) are all on my wishlist.

0909dkpmlFyrinnae gets into the act with several new shades of eyeshadows and some lip lustres I want as well. Shinigami (“deep, smoldering royal purple entwinted with a scattering of blue and crimson sparkle”) is right at the top of that wishlist. I also want Sleepy Hollow, Faerie Realm, and New Moon’s Light. Amongst the new lip lustres, I’m really interested in Bloodstains (how I love a creepy name!), and Diabolic Masquerade. They aren’t new, but I still want Amplifier and Acidic Cherry.

Aromaleigh has added some new glitter colors that would be fun for Halloween too. Check out the Bete Noire Femme Glitters for some dark, sparkly fun.

I will definitely be placing some orders soon!
