EOTD: Persephone Rocks!
Eyeshadow - Be the first to comment! - December 3rd, 2011

I ordered a bunch of samples from Persephone Minerals recently, and they arrived super-fast! I’m so excited to play with their holiday colors. Despite basically being a total grinch, I love holiday-themed collections. Persephone added holiday colors to their Sultry Sweet shades collection, and I ordered several! Today I used Buttermint and Peppermint Mocha!

Buttermint is a pale, glowing yellow highlight glistening with sparkles of bright yellow & duotone sparkles of red-yellow. Peppermint Mocha is a deep, decadent mocha with nice topping of green & red peppermint shimmer. I used Pixie Epoxy to help the sparkles stick on really well. Buttermint is really vibrant, and I just love how rich Peppermint Mocha is. Now I want one to drink! I used Detrivore Cosmetics’ Lobotomy to highlight.

I’m wearing MAC Mineralize Skinfish in Petticoat on my cheeks and L’Occitane lipstick in Brun Passementerie. I wish L’Occitane made lipsticks as a regular item – I’ve loved every single one I’ve purchased, but they’re always limited edition.

Today’s Scent of The Day is Be Enchanted from Bath & Body Works. It’s got notes of citrus, pomegranate, berries, passionfruit, honeysuckle, sugared violet, Asian pear whipped vanilla, creamy musk, and sandalwood.

5 Things: Shower Gel
5 Things, Body Care - Be the first to comment! - June 25th, 2010

Shower gel isn’t the most exciting stuff in the world but it sure does make mornings more enjoyable. A good smelling shower is one of my favorite things ever, so here is a list of shower gels I like, to perk up YOUR next shower.

1. EO Chocolate & Mint Shower Gel is the perfect mix of chocolate and mint, never too sweet but also not too tingly. This is a great way to wake up in the morning.

2. Nivea Touch Of Bliss Moisturizing Body Wash has a great creamy-fruity scent and leave my skin baby-soft. Love it!

3. L’Occitane Revitalizing Shower Gel contains mint, pine, and rosemary essential oils for a vibrant shower pick-me-up. It’s very refreshing!

4. Bath & Body Works Need A Margarita? Citrus Body Wash lives up to its name. It’s perfect for summertime, and smells good enough to drink (but don’t!).

5. The Body Shop Total Energy Exhilarating Body Wash mixes ginger with bergamot and  other spices, and has some scrubby bits to liven up your skin.

Bath & Body Works Sensual Sandalwood Fig
Body Care, Cheap Thrills, Perfume - Comments (3) - February 27th, 2010

cb-sandalwoodfigI love fig fragrances. I haven’t really met a fig scent that I didn’t like, actually. You can guess, then, that I was quite excited to see that Bath & Body Works has introduced another fig scent, this time Sandalwood Fig, as a part of their aromatherapy line. W00t!

The last time BBW did a fig I had to have, it was the True Blue Morocco Sweet Fig & Argan Body Lotion (which is still available on the website, half off!) and at the time I wished they made a body spray in the scent. The Sandalwood Fig is quite close, with all the wonderful figgy scent mixed with the warmth of sandalwood. I was pleased to see the new roll-on size, as this is perfect for trying out the scent, and keeping in the purse.

I wish the fragrance had more staying power, but it isn’t meant to be stronger than a body spray. A person could probably layer with the matching lotion and body wash to make it last longer (and since they are currently 2 for $20, I may just get them too!). In the meantime, I’m enjoying the roll-on a lot.

The candle smelled pretty awesome too, and might require further investigation… (All in the name of science, of course!)

Two Thumbs Up!

True Blue Spa Morocco Body Care
Body Care, Shopping - Be the first to comment! - July 9th, 2009

True Blue MoroccoI went into Bath & Body Works yesterday to check out what was new, since the sale ended on Sunday – time for new products! Tucked onto a small display were a handful of new products in the True Blue line with a Moroccan theme. Ooh!

It isn’t very often that BBW has something I’m a total sucker for, let alone multiple somethings. If you like spicy, complex scents, the new line is FOR YOU!

First, I sniffed the Saffron & Fig Shower Gel. It’s sweet, but still figgy, and a little tangy too. The bottle is beautiful, and large. Win!

Then I tried the Sweet Fig & Argan Body Lotion and just about swooned. It’s described as having the scent of figs and incense, and there are some spicy notes in there too. I think it might be the best, most interesting fragrance I’ve come across at Bath & Body Works! If there was a body spray or perfume in this scent, I’d have purchased it too. The bottle is glass, and so elegant and pretty. Win!

The Honey & Date Body Yoghurt really sealed the deal for me, though. It’s a thicker body cream that, swear to God, smells just like baklava. If you’ve always wanted to smell like honeyed pastry, here is your chance! (And I promise it’s a LOT better than it may sound…) I ended up putting it on top of the lotion and the two combined were amazing.

Somehow, I managed to leave the store yesterday without buying anything. Then, this morning, in my email inbox is a coupon from BBW – Free True Blue product (up to $15) with any $15 purchase. Score!!

So now all three products are MINE! Happy Day.

5 Things: Almost Spring Bits
5 Things - Be the first to comment! - March 1st, 2009

FlowerThere are signs popping up all over that spring is coming. I have daffodils and tulips in my yard, and they are pushing up and the daffodils will bloom soon. The primrose by my front steps is blooming and the daphne will be blooming soon too. Yay!

Here are five beauty-ful things that are keeping me cheery while I wait for winter to be over.
1. MAC Hello Kitty Lucky Tom and Pretty Baby. I went, I saw, I came home with the goods. Lovin’ them!

2. Benefit BADGal Plum mascara has really grown on me. It really enhances brown eyes!

3. Lolita Lempicka is one of my favorite cold-weather fragrances. It’s got that anise-y goodness. Also, it’s on sale!

4. Sympathy for the Skin Body Cream keeps my skin soft and happy, and it smells SO GOOD.

5. Optimism Shower Gel is the perfect thing to perk me up in the morning.

This isn’t exactly beauty related but I’ve also been having a lot of fun with Twitter. Won’t you join me?

Do You Need Some Optimism?
Body Care, Shopping - Be the first to comment! - January 27th, 2009

SunshineBath and Body Works has introduced a new fragrance to their Aromatherapy line – Optimism. I saw that they were previewing it during the holiday season, but didn’t pay much attention. Now the line has officially launched with a variety of products, and I checked it all out in store today.

The scent is a blend of flowers like jasmine and tuberose, with citrus oils and mate absolute. It’s very cheerful, and while you’d think it was really floral from the description, it’s not. It’s more fresh and clean, and very approachable. I haven’t been all that taken by the other aromatherapy offerings, but I found this really pleasant!

The “aromatherapy roll-on” is the most portable way to enjoy the scent, so I picked up one of those, and got the matching shower gel for free thanks to a bounceback coupon from the sale earlier this month. In a moment of weakness, I sprung for an umbrella they were offering also. I WISH it was online, because it is seriously cute. It’s orange on the outside but the inside (facing downward, the spokes side) is lined with fabric printed to look like a blue sky with fluffy white clouds. I need an umbrella anyway, and I liked how sturdy it seemed – and I couldn’t resist the bright orange color and the blue sky lining.

The True Blue Spa shower gel called Need A Margarita? is also new, and also super-fabulous if you are needing a little lift in the mood department. (Don’t we all this time of year? It’s COLD outside…) It smells like a margarita, but without the hangover.

New Stuff I Have, New Stuff I Want
Body Care, Makeup Fun, Perfume, Shopping - Comments (2) - January 31st, 2008

White Musk BlushA few years back, The Body Shop offered a version of their White Musk called White Musk Too. Unfortunately, I can’t find the notes online, but needless to say, I vastly prefer it to the original White Musk – which I find very bland and uninteresting. A recent visit to my local store yielded up a pleasant surprise – another new version of White Musk! This year it’s White Musk Blush.

First things first, though – I usually dislike fruity scents. I overloaded on the fruity florals as a teenager, and the spate of them in recent years generally turns me off. The exception to this is citrus scents, but I prefer them to be on the bitter side of things, rather than on the sugary-sweet. So, I’m not sure what the deal is with me lately, but the last two scents I’ve purchased have been fruity. (See post on Henri Bendel… I bought a STRAWBERRY scent!)

White Musk Blush has notes of bergamot, apple, cinnamon bark, mandarin, drenched fruit, wild rose, freesia, peach, white violet, lily, musk, sandalwood, vanilla and amber. I mean, “drenched fruit”? It’s fruity. I suspect, however, that the sandalwood and cinnamon bark are helping to keep things from getting out of hand, because on my skin it isn’t over the top. For the price ($17.50 for a 1 oz. eau de toilette), it’s a bargain. It reminds me of spring, and in the wet and dreary Oregon wintertime, a little hint of spring is worth a lot.

My other Body Shop purchase was a travel size of Coconut Body Scrub and the new Ginger shower gel. Super yum on both counts, especially the ginger. The scrub is very coconutty, and was perfect for travel – I used it on the non-blistered parts of my abused feet and it was perfect.

In the makeup department, I’m loving the Nars Lustre blush I purchased recently. I mean, it’s a Nars blush, so of course it’s amazing. But the golden apricot shade is fabulous – not quite bronzer, not quite gold… just super-natural and slightly sunkissed on my skin. I’d wear it everyday, except then my other Nars blushes would get jealous. *wink*

On to stuff I want, Bath and Body Works has introduced a shower oil of their own. I’m a big fan of L’Occitane’s Almond Shower Oil, and the For Heaven’s Saké seems to be a similar product. I love the scent. The Rice to the Rescue Rice Pudding Body Polish has a different, but equally delectable scent, so it is also on my want list.

I also want to sniff the new additions to the Sephora brand body butters – Lime Blossom and Peach Blossom (and I see Nectarine Blossom in the bubble bath, perhaps it’ll be added to the body butter too).  I’m already wanting the Tangerine Grapefruit scent – I’ve been using the shower gel, since I got a mini as sample, and I really like it. I think the body butter would be amazingly citrus-y, perfect for a rainy day.

New Temptations
Body Care, Shopping - Be the first to comment! - March 9th, 2007

TemptationsBath & Body Works has some new products out in their Temptations line. Check ‘em out here. I LOVE these three-in-one products even more than the ones from Philosophy, although it’s a slim margin. The Bath & Body Works products seem slightly more moisturizing than the Philosophy ones.

I’m really dying to try the Iced Tea Twist, the Banana Smoothie, and the Alluring Apple. I really like the Apple and Banana scents from Philosophy, so I’m glad to see them available in my preferred BBW formula…
