Stage Makeup Fun
Eyeshadow, Makeup Fun, Random Stuff - Comments (2) - May 3rd, 2013

I feel so bad I’ve been neglecting my blog so much. Only 5-ish weeks to go of school, and then hopefully I’ll have some free time again to blog. I have such a backlog of stuff to review!! This post is about one of the projects I worked on in April, creating a stage makeup look for my school’s fashion show for charity. I worked with two other students to create this look. The students were able to get discounts on fashion items from I did all the makeup except the contouring, I pay to do a lash lift and tint kit and my classmates did the hair, the face contouring, the pretty head-piece and the false eyelashes. Didn’t it come out awesome? The model is my sister. She walked on a catwalk and then posed for these photos. I didn’t know when I got dressed that morning that I’d be in the picture too or I would have worn something nicer than a crappy black polo (my standard student “uniform.”)

I used a Ben Nye Cream Color in a Special Red as the base for the eyeshadow. It had a tendency to crease (despite my best efforts with primers and powdering on top) so I don’t recommend it for everyday use. For the purposes of our show, I just smoothed it out right before she hit the catwalk. I used Detrivore’s Hemoglobin eyeshadow on top, to add richness and depth to the red. Ordinarily, Hemoglobin on top of a primer is sufficient for a rich, red color, but under the bright lights of the stage, using a red cream base gave it the extra kick I was looking for. The foundation is Chanel Pro Lumiere, which I’m sad to say has been discontinued. *cries* (I’m wearing Maybelline Age Rewind The Perfector Powder, which looks pretty frickin’ decent under those bright photo lights, I must say…) We highlighted with the lightest color from the Ben Nye Fair Personal Makeup Kit, as well as using the dark shade for contouring. Unfortunately, I can’t remember what blush we used, as we borrowed it from someone else. A generic white eyeliner pencil went on the lower waterline, and I used MAC Brun eyeshadow to fill in her brows. (I also use MAC Brun every day on my own brows.) The lip color is an Essence lip liner pencil, called In The Nude. It was essentially the perfect nude lip! We used Ben Nye Lumiere Luxe Powder in Iced Gold, a super shimmery gold powder as extra highlights on the face, and dabbed on her arms and legs (after they were generously moisturized) as well.

As for my makeup, I really can’t remember what all I used, although I’m pretty sure I’m wearing Detrivore Cosmetics and Shiro Cosmetics eyeshadows, and Detrivore Cosmetics blush. The lip is L’Oreal Infallible Gloss in Coral Sands (best nude gloss ever). The concealer is new and awesome (and inexpensive!!) and I need to tell you all about it in another post. For now, let’s admire how minimized my dark circles are, despite the bright lights.

Overall, this was a great experience in stage makeup and I had a blast. I have another photoshoot at the end of the month, for which I still need to develop a concept and find a model…

EOTD: Spring Greens
Eyeshadow - Comments Off - April 4th, 2013

Last month I picked up a new Wet N’ Wild palette which caught my eye. It’s a limited edition palette called Going In The Wild – you can see some great pics and swatches here. I really love these 8 pan Wet N’ Wild palettes, this is the third one I’ve bought… they’re so inexpensive!! I bought this one because I just looooove that mint green color – I’m such a sucker for it! The purples are pretty too, but it was the green that suckered me in. I decided to play with it today, and paired it with a favorite Linnaeus Cosmetics darker green.

The lid color is the mint green from the Going In The Wild palette. Used over Urban Decay Primer Potion, it actually has pretty good color payoff, in my opinion. The crease color is Vex, from Linnaeus Cosmetics. Vex is a shimmering green-turquoise, almost blue depending on the light. I really miss Linnaeus Cosmetics a lot. I really hope they come back again someday, so I can throw some more money at them. The highlight color is Buttercream Bliss, from Persephone Minerals. I used Milani Liquid Eye eyeliner in Aqua.

The blush is Poison, from Detrivore Cosmetics. The lipgloss is Sintillation Lipgelee from MAC.

EOTD: Dark Blue
Eyeshadow - Comments (1) - April 3rd, 2013

Hello Lovelies! Things have been very busy this month with school and real life, so my blog has been sadly neglected. I have a few EOTD posts to catch up on, so here’s the first! I was wanting to wear something more dramatic, so I used a darker blue color, and paired it with one of my favorite Shiro colors.

The lid color is Oceanic Expeditions from Eccentric Cosmetics. It’s a navy blue filled with gold, and purple sparks. The crease color is Shiro Cosmetics’ Fullmetal. Fullmetal is a complex charcoal base with a strong golden shimmer and red highlights. I used Shiro’s Tears of Retail Employees to highlight. The eyeliner is Physician’s Formula Shimmer Strips Kohl Kajal Eyeliner in the blue color. I really love these kohl liners!

The blush is Detrivore Cosmetics’ Poison. I forgot to wear a lip color for the picture. I wore MAC Sintillation Lip Gelee.

EOTD: Little Green Theos
Cat, Eyeshadow - Comments (1) - February 4th, 2013

Having gone through various shades of browns this week, and then purple, I decided that today’s makeup needed to feature green colors. I used my always-favorite color Theo from Black Rose Minerals, as well as a Meow Cosmetics green. Bonus today: A picture of Theo!

I put Theo, a light fawn with a green duochrome and green sparkles, on the lid. The crease color is Little Green Men, a Halloween color from Meow Cosmetics. Little Green Men is a sparkly pine green with flashes of green sparkle and iridescence. It’s a great dark green. I used Lobotomy, from Detrivore Cosmetics, to highlight. The eyeliner is Milani Cosmetics’ Liquid Eye Mechanical Eyeliner in Green.

The blush is Thing, a pale peachy color, from Detrivore. The lip color is Shiro Cosmetics’ Why Not Zoidberg? Intertube. Isn’t it the best coral-y color?

I snapped a quick pic of Theo the other morning, looking all handsome.

EOTD: Light Brown
Eyeshadow - Comments Off - February 1st, 2013

It’s the curse of the beauty blogger. You want to write about your EOTD’s regularly, but you hate it when you can’t link to the product websites because the colors are discontinued. But you still want to wear these colors because they’re pretty, and if you only ever wear colors that are current, you’ll never use up any of your makeup! Gah! My solution is to wear a bunch of discontinued stuff at once and this will just be a mostly linkless post. C’est la vie, and all that!

I wanted to wear some soft brown colors today, to contrast with yesterday’s BRIGHT PURPLE. I used Pearl, a basic beige color with gold sparkles from Borghese on the lid. The crease color is Spice, a medium brown color from Raw Natural Minerals. It’s a great brown because it’s very blendable and easy to use. The brow bone and inner corner highlight is a cream color from L’Occitane called Helene. I also used more Spice on the upper and lower lashlines.

The blush is Clotted from Detrivore Cosmetics. Clotted is CURRENT! It’s a deep, dark red, but applied with a very, very light hand (like, just pick up a crumb or two on your brush) I think it gives a nice dramatic look that isn’t over the top. It’s just a color I love to wear!

The lipstick is MAC Viva Glam Cyndi.

EOTD: Grape Mad Cows
Eyeshadow - Comments (2) - January 31st, 2013

I decided it’s been way too long since I wore some purple. So I pulled out some great purples to wear, along with a bright lip color. My Pretty Zombie makes a bunch of pretty purples, but I picked Mad Cow to wear today.

Mad Cow is a mid tone purple with a blue shift. The shift is more apparent if you use a stick base, which I forgot to do. The crease color is MAC’s Grape pigment. I used Meow Cosmetic’s Bubble Bath to highlight under the brow bone and in the inner corners. The eyeliner is from L’Oreal, Violet Volt.

I used Detrivore Cosmetics’ Poison blush. It’s still probably my favorite blush color to wear. The lipstick is MAC’s Style Curve. The brow Drama is a brow gel/mascara that comes in dark brown, medium brown and clear. I personally use Dark brown even though I’m blond. It gives the brows volume and definition and you’ll find that you have brow hairs you didn’t even know existed, honestly I always try my best to take care of my brows, Brow Threading seems to work wonders, it allows you to have greater control over which hairs are removed

I have to stop tweezing my eyebrows so that they’re nice and bushy for one of my classmates to wax off when we start doing that in three weeks. It’s gonna suck! (I can’t shave my legs either, but at least no one can see that since it’s winter and I wear pants!)

EOTD: First Day
Eyeshadow - Comments (2) - January 30th, 2013

Today was the first day of school. I decided to wear Black Rose Mineral’s Tiger Lily, because it’s such a great color. It came out a little messier than I’d like, but it mostly looks okay I think.

Tiger Lily is a neutral peachy tan with just a touch of pinky red spakles. Using a sticky base will make it appear more sparkly. The crease color is Premature Burial, an earthy brown glistens with pink and gold sparkles. The highlight color is from Shiro Cosmetics, a limited edition sparkly white color.

I’ve been using this eyeliner from Physician’s Formula, the Shimmer Strips Kohl Kajal Eyeliner Trio, Blue Eyes set. I know I don’t have blue eyes, but I really wanted the navy blue color, along with the brown color and black color. I used the brown color here. I need to do a review of these on their own, but needless to say, I’m really kind of digging the texture and formula.

The blush is Gallows, from Detrivore Cosmetics. I forgot to put on a lip color before I took the picture! Doh!! I wore L’Oreal’s Infallible Gloss in Coral Sands.

EOTD: Theo Manipulation
Eyeshadow - Comments Off - December 24th, 2012

This is the first look I did with a Eccentric Cosmetics color. I used my beloved Theo from Black Rose Minerals, and paired it with Biological Manipulation. I think it came out really well! Biological Manipulation is an awesome color!

Theo is a light fawn with a green duochrome and green sparkles. It’s basically my favorite taupe-y color EVER. Biological Manipulation is a metallic coppery rose which shifts to metallic golden sheen over a olive green base. Detrivore Cosmetics Lobotomy is the highlight color, under the browbone and in the inner corners. I used a new eyeliner, the brown color from a Physician’s Formula Custom Eye Enhancing Kohl Kajal Eyeliner Trio. I am really liking these kohl eyeliners, I’ll be doing a more comprehensive review soon.

The blush is Detrivore Cosmetics’ Clotted. The lipgloss is Shiro Cosmetics’ Holiday Gloss in Red Ryder.
