EOTD: Blind Daydream
Cheap Thrills, Eyeshadow - Be the first to comment! - November 17th, 2011
I haven’t used these in a long time, so today I busted out some new school Hard Candy eyeshadows. I have two of the baked eyeshadow duos, Blind Date and Daydream.
Blind Date is a bright white and candy pink duo. Daydream is more of a pink-mauve and silver duo. I haven’t used them together before, so I figured what the hey. The baked eyeshadows are a pretty nice formula – sometimes baked shadows are so dry, they’re hard to use. Not so with these. It’s easy to pick up color on the brush and easy to get decent color without spending an age building it up, on the skin. At $6 each, they’re a good value, even if you have to go to Wal-mart to buy them.
I put the candy pink from Blind Date in the inner corners of the lid, and the mauve from Daydream in the outer corners. The silver from Daydream is in the crease, and the bright white from Blind Date is the highlighter. I’m wearing a pale purple eye pencil from Essence. I have a love/hate relationship with this eye pencil. It’s very soft, so it applies pretty easily, but if I sharpen it to a point it breaks off. Bah humbug! I used a pale pink eyeliner on the lower lashline. I’m not sure how I feel about it. I think I prefer dark eyeliner, just in general.
I’m wearing a MAC blush, and Morgana Cryptoria’s Lip Balm in Hibiscus. Best pale pink ever.
Here’s a bonus Theo picture. He was snoozing all day, and I got a lot of snuggles.
EOTD: Sleepy Rhino

I felt like doing something really, really blue today. I realized I haven’t done an all-Fyrinnae look in a while, so today I pulled out Sleepy Hollow and Javan Rhino for some blue on blue action!
We’ve got Javan Rhino on the lid, Sleepy Hollow in the crease, and my favorite Nijiro to highlight. I used L’Oreal HiP Kohl Eyeliner in Navy to line my eyes.
Javan Rhino has a LOVELY pink duochrome to it that I really wish could be accurately captured by the camera. Alas. It’s one of my favorite blues to wear, it’s such a great color. Sleepy Hollow is another fab blue with lovely gold sparkles. I used Pixie Epoxy to get it all to stick, but it still doesn’t photograph well.
Cheeks are Bare Escentuals Blush in Secret and lips are Hard Candy Super Shine Gloss in Piglet. It’s getting kind of old, but it’s my favorite so I don’t want to throw it out… I’m trying to use it up, instead.
Lipstick Fun: Pinks and Reds
Hot Lips - Comments (1) - March 25th, 2010
I added a few more lipsticks to my collection recently, and wanted to share them with you. I’m still really into BRIGHT lips, it must be a reaction to the gray winter weather we get in Oregon. I want COLOR! LOL. Pink and red are especially appealing to me right now. Check it out!
MAC recently released the Liberty Of London collection, a collaboration with a British luxury accessories brand (www.liberty.co.uk). The color Petals & Peacocks was irresistable, being an awesome bright magenta pink color. Plus, the packaging is just TOO ADORABLE!! I love the bird and petals motif. The finish is Amplified, which means it’s quite richly pigmented, but not at all drying. (Check out this blog for a good review of the various finishes.)
I happened to check out Milani’s lipsticks at Fred Meyer the other day, and picked up Rose Hip, a shade that looked quite magenta as well. I haven’t tried a Milani lipstick before, but since I love most of the other products I’ve tried, I figured it was worth a go. Success! Rose Hip is a dead ringer for Petals & Peacocks, although a little less pigmented. Also, I don’t love the scent, it’s sort of an artificial rose scent. However, if you want a budget version of Petals & Peacocks, it’s pretty darn good.
Just for fun and comparison, this one is Hard Candy’s No Peeking, which isn’t as bright as either of the first two. If you want a bright pink, but don’t want it quite so bright, this one is a good alternative.
I’m always on the prowl for a good red, and L’Oreal provides two really good ones: Penelope’s Red and Real Red.
Real Red is from the Colour Riche Anti-Aging Serum collection, a line that contains a core of “serum” that is supposed to smooth fine lines. It does this by lightly plumping the lips (hence, there is a light tingle upon application). I have several shades of this formula, and they are all quite wearable and flattering. Real Red has more of a blue-tone to it, and looks a little lighter in the picture than it actually is. It’s a good red, although I do think it could stand to be more pigmented. The finish is a bit satin-y, not at all matte.
Penelope’s Red is a little warmer than Real Red, and a little more pigmented. For best results, I would recommend using a lip pencil to line your lips first (I didn’t in the picture) and then applying the lipstick. Penelope’s Red is great! The regular Colour Riche line has the same satin-y finish as the Anti-Aging one, so this one isn’t matte. But it also isn’t drying to my lips, which I appreciate. If you want a more orange-tone red, this one is worth checking out.
What are your favorite fuchsia and red lipsticks?

Today is the first day of 2010 and 2009 is gone gone gone! How else would a blogger start the New Year than with a Best Of post?
The Raspberry Body Butter from the Body Shop is still my favorite body cream, although Kiehl’s Imperial Body Balm is THISCLOSE to being first in my heart. Speaking of Kiehl’s, their Mascara wins the prize for my most-used mascara this year. I use it almost every day now.
The return of Hard Candy definitely tops my list of Great Makeup News. I’m still in love with the new baked-style eyeshadow duos.
2009 was my year to discover the awesomeness that is loose mineral (and mineral-style) eyeshadows. Aromaleigh, J. Lynne, Meow Cosmetics, Fyrinnae, and even Bare Escentuals all get my vote (and my money!).
Natural and organic beauty really hit the big time in 2009. I use my EcoTools brushes every day, and I’m constantly amazed at the expanded cosmetics aisles in stores like Whole Foods and my local New Seasons Market.
Lonestar Memories, Chanel No. 5 Eau Premiere, and Lisa Hoffman Japanese Agarwood top the list of my favorite new fragrances from 2009.
Favorite beauty moment? Shopping for cosmetics in NYC in September. Second favorite beauty moment? Deciding to cut my hair and wear it short (again).
What are your favorite things from 2009?
Hard Candy Fun

I picked up a few more things from Hard Candy recently, and they’re really fun! I wish the brand was carried at more stores than just Walmart, since it’s not convenient for me to shop there, but I’m willing to overlook this fact because of how cute the products are.
Most recently, I bought a Tinted Lip Balm in Julie, a coral shade. It’s a nice formula, without mineral oil or petrolatum, containing sunflower seed oil, mango butter, macadamia oil, and beeswax. As a lip balm goes, it’s moisturizing without being greasy, and while it isn’t the best thing ever for lasting power, it’s still pretty good. The color is quite sheer but pretty. I love the packaging! Also, the formula doesn’t get too soft and squishy in my pocket, a total win.
I also bought an Eye For An Eye Pencil in Sublime, a double-ended pencil in blue and silver. So far, I’ve used the blue end and it’s pretty good. It’s a little hard, but easy enough to soften if you warm it between your fingers. It’s a metallic blue, and has good lasting power. If it were a little softer, I’d give it two thumbs up, but it definitely gets a single thumb for the pretty color and long wear.
Have you tried any of the new Hard Candy?
Hard Candy Eyeshadow & Lipstick Fun
Cheap Thrills, Eyeshadow, Hot Lips - Be the first to comment! - October 2nd, 2009
I’m so excited to report on the new Hard Candy products being launched this month! As I previously mentioned, Hard Candy is being re-introduced to the marketplace as a mass market brand at Wal-Mart. I had the opportunity to try out an eyeshadow duo, a lipstick, and a nail polish (report on that to come!). Here’s my take on the products!
The eyeshadow duo I tried is called Daydream and is a pink and silver duo. It’s a baked-style eyeshadow, which as a general rule I just don’t love. I usually find them dry and it’s too much work to get any color payoff. This Hard Candy duo pleasantly surprised me! If I pressed my finger on the brush while swiping on the shadow, the brush picked up plenty of color with one or two swipes. The colors slid onto my eyelids smoothly and evenly, and the color impact is very WOW! I used the pink shade on the lid, the silver in the crease and Fyrinnae Nijiro on the browbone and I’m very pleased with the result. I’m also wearing a L’Oreal HIP eyeliner in Violet Volt.
The lipstick is in the shade No Peeking and is a bright hot pink (I’m not wearing it in the picture). It smells like cookies, but has no discernible flavor. No Peeking really isn’t my color, but I can tell you that the lipstick formula is nice! Very smooth, good color impact, and it seems hydrating too. Not sure on wear, I haven’t worn it for long enough to tell. The packaging is really cute!! I love the little pink ribbon that comes out the bottom, and each tube has a different decorative print on the tube case.
I think the new Hard Candy is going to be really successful for the company. The packaging is cute, the products that I’ve tried so far have good quality, and the price is going to be delightfully affordable. I can’t wait to check out the whole line soon!
The Return of Hard Candy!

I have missed you, Hard Candy. I was very sad to see you leave Sephora, and even sadder when your website went offline.
I thought I was going to have to hoard my glosses, and would never see your fun eyeshadow colors again. But, what is this news? Hard Candy is back, and much to my wallet’s happiness, has been re-launched as a mass-market brand! Yes, in a mere week’s time, you will find Hard Candy at none other than Wal-Mart, the massest of the mass markets.
This could be good news or bad news, but I’m inclined to go with Good on this one. The packaging looks really cute, and the products promise to be the same quality they’ve always been. I definitely can’t wait to check them out in person!
The nail polishes look super-cute, and those little eyeshadows look good too. What will YOU be investigating further?
Wicked Kitten? Otter Cupcake?
Eyeshadow, Makeup Fun - Be the first to comment! - April 13th, 2009
LOL sounds like a halloween party! But no, it’s just Claire playing with some more Fyrinnae eyeshadows. I am SERIOUSLY in love. If you like vibrant colors, you MUST check out Fyrinnae (and I don’t work for them, promise!). I’ve used a lot of eyeshadow and I am consistently impressed with the impact of their eyeshadow colors. They blend pretty well too, and they wear all day long. They have a nice selection of more neutral and pastel colors too if the bright shades aren’t your bag. The samples are VERY generous and come in jars, which is another factor making me LOVE the products. I’m just not a fan of the baggie and I’m willing to pay more for a jar.
On my last day off, I paired Sea Otter (medium green with soft blue highlights) with Cupcake Sprinkles (satiny lavender with a subtle aqua shimmer), and used Urban Decay Liquid Liner in Crash (purple with silver sparkle), and Nijiro under the browbone. I brushed TBS Roseflower Blush in Pink on my cheeks and I’m wearing Hard Candy’s Piglet Lip Gloss. Sea Otter is more vibrant than MAC Aquavert, which is more pastel. I just adore Cupcake Sprinkles, it is the BEST purple ever.
Today I used Kitten In Heels (bright fuschia with violet and blue shimmer) and Wicked (deep, dark purple with turquoise shimmer), with a little Twinkle Twinkle Little Bat (somewhat pink, somewhat lavender, and very sparkly). I put the Kitten on the inner half of the lid, with Twinkle on the outer half and blended. I put Wicked in the crease and blended some more, with the result being the whole eye looks quite purple. On the browbone and blended around the eye I used Techno from my Hard Candy palette, a white with purple sheen. I lined with Benefit Bad Gal on the lower lashline and UD Crash (again) on the upper. On the cheeks went Samba from J. Lynne, and a mark. juice gems on my lips. It came out more dramatic than the pictures really show. I love these colors!
I’ve got a bunch more colors on my wishlist, including Arctic Fox, Dryad, Red Panda, and Lip Lustres in Bounce and Fanservice. I need to review Whee, Visual Kei, and Melty – I used Melty the other day with Love Potion but didn’t have time to get it photographed. There are also a bunch of Aromaleigh colors I want… This loose eyeshadow habit could really become a problem!
I look totally crankypants in this picture… I’m really quite cheerful, honest! LOL.
