EOTD: Crocodilia Cetacea
Eyeshadow - Be the first to comment! - May 13th, 2013

It seems like whenever I go for the dramatic lately, I reach for Detrivore Cosmetics’ Cetacea. It’s such a great blue color. It seemed like the done thing to pair it with a greenish color this time, so I grabbed Crocodilia, also from Detrivore. It must be the blue hair, it makes me want to wear blue eyeshadow.

I used Crocodilia on the lid. Crocodilia is a dark teal satin eye shadow with heavy sparkle. I put Cetacea in the crease. Cetacea is a dense purplish blue satin eye shadow. It has blue, purple, red, and pink shimmer. I used Shiro Cosmetics’ Finkelstein to highlight. Finkelstein is a sheer creamy white with turquoise sparkle, and an intense aqua sheen. (It was from the Halloween collection.) I used Physician’s Formula kohl eyeliner on the upper lashline and the lower waterline.

I didn’t use blush for this, but rather Physician’s Formula Healthy Wear Bronzer. I’ve been hooked on this bronzer lately. It must be all the sunny weather we’ve been having. It’s an SPF 50 product, but personally I don’t think you’re going to put enough on your face to matter, from a sun protection point of view. But it’s a great every day bronzer.

I forgot to put lip stuff on before I took the picture. Doh.

Stage Makeup Fun
Eyeshadow, Makeup Fun, Random Stuff - Comments (2) - May 3rd, 2013

I feel so bad I’ve been neglecting my blog so much. Only 5-ish weeks to go of school, and then hopefully I’ll have some free time again to blog. I have such a backlog of stuff to review!! This post is about one of the projects I worked on in April, creating a stage makeup look for my school’s fashion show for charity. I worked with two other students to create this look. I did all the makeup except the contouring, and my classmates did the hair, the face contouring, the pretty head-piece and the false eyelashes. Didn’t it come out awesome? The model is my sister. She walked on a catwalk and then posed for these photos. I didn’t know when I got dressed that morning that I’d be in the picture too or I would have worn something nicer than a crappy black polo (my standard student “uniform.”)

I used a Ben Nye Cream Color in a Special Red as the base for the eyeshadow. It had a tendency to crease (despite my best efforts with primers and powdering on top) so I don’t recommend it for everyday use. For the purposes of our show, I just smoothed it out right before she hit the catwalk. I used Detrivore’s Hemoglobin eyeshadow on top, to add richness and depth to the red. Ordinarily, Hemoglobin on top of a primer is sufficient for a rich, red color, but under the bright lights of the stage, using a red cream base gave it the extra kick I was looking for. The foundation is Chanel Pro Lumiere, which I’m sad to say has been discontinued. *cries* (I’m wearing Maybelline Age Rewind The Perfector Powder, which looks pretty frickin’ decent under those bright photo lights, I must say…) We highlighted with the lightest color from the Ben Nye Fair Personal Makeup Kit, as well as using the dark shade for contouring. Unfortunately, I can’t remember what blush we used, as we borrowed it from someone else. A generic white eyeliner pencil went on the lower waterline, and I used MAC Brun eyeshadow to fill in her brows. (I also use MAC Brun every day on my own brows.) The lip color is an Essence lip liner pencil, called In The Nude. It was essentially the perfect nude lip! We used Ben Nye Lumiere Luxe Powder in Iced Gold, a super shimmery gold powder as extra highlights on the face, and dabbed on her arms and legs (after they were generously moisturized) as well.

As for my makeup, I really can’t remember what all I used, although I’m pretty sure I’m wearing Detrivore Cosmetics and Shiro Cosmetics eyeshadows, and Detrivore Cosmetics blush. The lip is L’Oreal Infallible Gloss in Coral Sands (best nude gloss ever). The concealer is new and awesome (and inexpensive!!) and I need to tell you all about it in another post. For now, let’s admire how minimized my dark circles are, despite the bright lights.

Overall, this was a great experience in stage makeup and I had a blast. I have another photoshoot at the end of the month, for which I still need to develop a concept and find a model…

EOTD: Dark Blue
Eyeshadow - Comments (1) - April 3rd, 2013

Hello Lovelies! Things have been very busy this month with school and real life, so my blog has been sadly neglected. I have a few EOTD posts to catch up on, so here’s the first! I was wanting to wear something more dramatic, so I used a darker blue color, and paired it with one of my favorite Shiro colors.

The lid color is Oceanic Expeditions from Eccentric Cosmetics. It’s a navy blue filled with gold, and purple sparks. The crease color is Shiro Cosmetics’ Fullmetal. Fullmetal is a complex charcoal base with a strong golden shimmer and red highlights. I used Shiro’s Tears of Retail Employees to highlight. The eyeliner is Physician’s Formula Shimmer Strips Kohl Kajal Eyeliner in the blue color. I really love these kohl liners!

The blush is Detrivore Cosmetics’ Poison. I forgot to wear a lip color for the picture. I wore MAC Sintillation Lip Gelee.

EOTD: Little Green Theos
Cat, Eyeshadow - Comments (1) - February 4th, 2013

Having gone through various shades of browns this week, and then purple, I decided that today’s makeup needed to feature green colors. I used my always-favorite color Theo from Black Rose Minerals, as well as a Meow Cosmetics green. Bonus today: A picture of Theo!

I put Theo, a light fawn with a green duochrome and green sparkles, on the lid. The crease color is Little Green Men, a Halloween color from Meow Cosmetics. Little Green Men is a sparkly pine green with flashes of green sparkle and iridescence. It’s a great dark green. I used Lobotomy, from Detrivore Cosmetics, to highlight. The eyeliner is Milani Cosmetics’ Liquid Eye Mechanical Eyeliner in Green.

The blush is Thing, a pale peachy color, from Detrivore. The lip color is Shiro Cosmetics’ Why Not Zoidberg? Intertube. Isn’t it the best coral-y color?

I snapped a quick pic of Theo the other morning, looking all handsome.

EOTD: Theo Manipulation
Eyeshadow - Be the first to comment! - December 24th, 2012

This is the first look I did with a Eccentric Cosmetics color. I used my beloved Theo from Black Rose Minerals, and paired it with Biological Manipulation. I think it came out really well! Biological Manipulation is an awesome color!

Theo is a light fawn with a green duochrome and green sparkles. It’s basically my favorite taupe-y color EVER. Biological Manipulation is a metallic coppery rose which shifts to metallic golden sheen over a olive green base. Detrivore Cosmetics Lobotomy is the highlight color, under the browbone and in the inner corners. I used a new eyeliner, the brown color from a Physician’s Formula Custom Eye Enhancing Kohl Kajal Eyeliner Trio. I am really liking these kohl eyeliners, I’ll be doing a more comprehensive review soon.

The blush is Detrivore Cosmetics’ Clotted. The lipgloss is Shiro Cosmetics’ Holiday Gloss in Red Ryder.

Shiro Cosmetics Holiday Lipglosses
Hot Lips, Reviews - Comments (3) - December 21st, 2012

As soon as they were launched on December 1st, I ordered the new Shiro Cosmetics Holiday Lipglosses because HELLO!?! don’t they look gorgeous? I was really happy with the Halloween gloss, so I definitely wanted to get the holiday set too. The colors will work year-round, so don’t hesitate to check them out!

Based on A Christmas Story, the colorful trio features a red color, a gold color, and a purple color. They’re all metallic, but quite sheer compared to the color in the tube. I like the sheerness, since this makes them quite versatile. You can wear them alone for a nice wash of color, or layer them over a stain or lipstick for extra oomph. I really love the Shiro gloss formula. It’s very smooth and not at all sticky, and also moisturizing.

Red Ryder is the red color, named for the Red Ryder carbine-action, two hundred shot Range Model air rifle with a compass in the stock and this thing which tells time. It’s bright candy red with silver sparkle and peppermint bark flavor. It can be layered for extra color.

Leg Lamp is probably my favorite, because I love gold. It’s a shimmery true gold with toffee flavor (yum!) and looks awesome by itself or over other colors. LOVE IT!

Triple Dog Dare, named for the iconic flagpole-licking scene, is a dusty shimmery plum with beigey undertones and a sugarplum flavor. It’s a bit tricky to pull off, but I really like it – especially over a berry lip stain for a nice vampy look.

Here’s how it looks over a berry lip stain, specifically NYC Smooch Proof Lip Stain in Berry Long Time. (This stain is an EXCELLENT value, btw, I highly recommend it.)

All three of these colors are really fun, and I highly recommend you get them. Buy them as a setand save some money! Which color do you like best?

EOTD: Shiro Halloween Fun
Eyeshadow - Comments (1) - November 26th, 2012

Shiro Cosmetics’ still has the Halloween Collection listed, but I don’t know for how long. If these colors look good, you should probably snag it PRONTO! I used three of the four colors for this look, and I really love them! The Halloween Collection is based on The Nightmare Before Christmas, which is Halloween-y, but also totally Christmas-y in my world. This came out messier than I like, boo hiss.

The lid color is Ragdoll, a lightly faded rust matte base filled with lilac and blue sparkles. This is such a pretty color! I used Pumpkin King in the crease. Pumpkin King is a blackened copper packed with orange sparkles, and it’s delicious. I love these dark brown/charcoals from Shiro, I really do. Use a sticky base for maximum sparklage! I used Finkelstein to highlight, from the inner corners up to the brow bone. Finkelstein is a sheer, ultra-pale ghoulish green-yellow-grey with blue shimmer. It’s a great highlight color. I used more Pumpkin King (with a damp brush) on the upper and lower lashlines.

I used Desert Rose blush from Bare Escentuals. It’s a pretty dusty rose color. The lipstick is Paul & Joe.

EOTD: Homunculus MDMA
Eyeshadow - Comments (3) - November 24th, 2012

Since it’s the weekend, and I haven’t worn Oh Hey Let’s Go Nuts With Sparkles eyeshadow in ages, I decided to bust out some bright colors and have a little fun today. I’m wearing MDMA from My Pretty Zombie with Homunculus from Shiro Cosmetics, and I think they look nice together!

MDMA is a rosy pink with gold afterglow, and it’s really stunning. It’s one of my favorite pink colors. Homunculus is a shimmery dark grey base with bright sparks of red. I’m addicted to Shiro’s dark gray/charcoal colors for their richness and ease of application. I used Unicorn Pee to highlight, because I wanted all those crazy rainbow sparkles. I used Pixy Epoxy underneath it all to make it stick. The eyeliner is L’Oreal HiP Color Chrome Eyeliner in Black Shock. I also applied more Homunculus to the lower lashline.

The blush is from Silk Naturals, it’s Guava. Guava is a sheer, nude mauve blush. The lipgloss is L’Oreal Infallible Lipgloss in Suede – one of my favorite colors from L’Oreal.
