My Top Ten Favorite Indie Beauty Companies
Best Of, Makeup Fun, Shopping - Comments Off - December 3rd, 2011

A while back, Luna from Toxid Lotus tagged me to list my top ten favorite indie beauty companies. I’ve been very lazy about doing it, so today, I bring you MY top ten favorite indie beauty companies. These are in no particular order…

1. Linnaeus Cosmetics. The lovely Miss Marin is wonderful and awesome and her eyeshadows are just the bees knees. These are colors I reach for again and again. Her customer service is amazing and I can’t wait for her to open again in 2012.

2. Black Rose Minerals. So many of Rosa’s colors are also staples for me, like Skink and Minky. She also made Theo for me, my dream taupe-y color with a green duochrome. She has a great selection of colors!

3. One Hand Washes The Other makes Black Magic Soap, which will save your face from evil. Becca also makes some of my now favorite scents to wear, like Pasticceria and Victuals. You NEED to check out her solid scents if you haven’t already!

4. My Pretty Zombie makes some of the most creative colors I have – like Thunderpants, Unicorn Pee, and the whole Animal Husbandry set. I love her duochromes, and the owner is a sweetheart. She has awesome customer service.

5. Detrivore Cosmetics makes the Best Blush Ever. No, really. Poison, Thing, and Clotted are colors I reach for ALL THE TIME. In fact, I’ve had to make myself reach for others just so I use them up. As if that wasn’t enough, Distorria also makes beautiful eyeshadows (Lobotomy, Cremains…) and now she has good smelling things too!

6. Meow Cosmetics has been a favorite mine for a long, long time. I have so many eyeshadow colors from them, and they are all beautiful. They also make excellent blushes and I really love the crystalline glow powders. They have sales and free shipping quite often, so it’s worth it to get on their mailing list so you get the notices!

7. Silk Naturals is a new favorite. Everything I’ve tried has been excellent, from blushes to eyeshadows to my favorite, the Kisser Slicker Lipgloss Sticks.

8. Fyrinnae. Yes, I know, half the time you want to shop they’re not there and that’s frustrating. BUT! Pixie Epoxy is a holy grail item for me, and I love their Lip Lustres and eyeshadow, so they’re on my top ten list.

9. Brazen Cosmetics makes some of my favorites lip glosses EVER! I also really like their eyeshadow, and I want to try some of the face powders too, like the night time formula.

10. Hmm. I don’t have a tenth right now.

EOTD: Juicy Wraith
Eyeshadow - Comments Off - November 16th, 2011

Ooh I’m so happy with how this turned out!! Today’s makeup is more new Detrivore Cosmetics colors – Wraith and Hack, with Juiced from Silk Naturals. Some days browns just look so good!

Wraith is a dark brown color with golden and copper shimmer. It is quite possibly my new favorite dark brown color EVER. Hack is a dark salmon satin color, and it is AMAZING. It’s not quite copper but not really red either… it’s very unique. Juiced is a pale gold suede color that ties the first two together. They all are so blendable and nice. I’m really happy with how this came out!

Today’s blush is Satisfied from Silk Naturals, and I forgot to put lip stuff on before taking the picture. Doh!

EOTD: Sphinx Widow
Eyeshadow - Comments (2) - November 10th, 2011

Copper and purple are fun colors to wear together, and I decided to up the fun factor by putting them over a hot pink base. I used Sphinx and Widow, two new colors from Detrivore Cosmetics, as well as Pink Prysm Spectrum Pot from Evil Shades.

First, I put down a thin layer of Urban Decay Primer Potion. Next, I patted Pink Prysm all over the lid, just up into the crease, but trying to avoid going much higher than that. Pink Prysm is a hot carnation pink with silver shimmer. The Spectrum Pots are a wax based pigmented eye color. They’re probably too sheer to wear alone, but make an excellent, slightly sticky, base for other colors. Pink Prysm is going to bring out the reddish undertones of anything you put on top of it. Sphinx is a satin copper eye shadow with gold sparkle. On it’s own it’s a lovely copper, and over Pink Prysm, it’s more reddish. I like it both ways! Widow is dark red satin eye shadow, like red wine color. Not purple, more of a burgundy. I really loved it over Pink Prysm, it brought out the red tones even more.

I’m wearing Silk Naturals’ blush in Tart Light, and Stila Lip Stain in Pomegranate Crush.

EOTD: Scarlet Lemonade
Eyeshadow - Comments (2) - November 8th, 2011

This is actually from Sunday, when I felt like “dressing up” a bit, because well, it was Sunday! LOL. I wanted to use pink and red, so I grabbed Sinister Scarlet from Morgana Cryptoria and Pink Lemonade from Hi-Fi Cosmetics. I haven’t actually used Pink Lemonade before, so I wanted to play with it.

Sinister Scarlet is a dark red color, not quite maroon. It has a nice sheen to it. Pink Lemonade is a shimmering pink with golden lemony sparkle. It’s quite sparkly. I like it a lot! I’ve read that Hi-Fi has improved their turn-around and customer service issues, so perhaps I’ll order again from them. I used Detrivore’s Lobotomy to highlight.

I am dumb and can’t remember what blush I used, but I do remember that I put Silk Naturals’ Heavenly Glow on top. It looks really dark on their website, but went on quite sheer with a big fluffy brush. My lip color is Morgana Cryptoria Amaranth Lip Balm.

EOTD: Juicy Cloudberry Tea
Eyeshadow, Hot Lips - Comments (3) - October 29th, 2011

I wanted to play with some more of the Silk Naturals colors I recently purchased, so today I used Juiced, Sweet Tea, and Cloudberry. They are a suede finish, and all made to work together. Aren’t they pretty?

Cloudberry is a a creamy peach color with nice golden highlights. It’s a nice change from pink. Sweet Tea is a “deep peach tone with a hint of copper, and a little little bit of red.” It’s almost brown, but with a peachy look to it. SO PRETTY. Juiced is is a pale gold with a bit of gold glimmer. It’s a lovely highlight color.

I have Detrivore Cosmetic’s Thing blush on my cheeks. The peachy color is really nice with the peachy eyeshadows. Also, I have it on good authority that Detrivore is releasing new products on November 1, so be sure to check out their site!

I also bought another Kisser Slicker to try, this one in Foreplay. It’s a sheer pinkish peach with just a hint of gold and bronze. I really like the formula of the Kisser Slicker glosses, they’re really emollient but have a nice pigmentation to them.

Now I want to get some more of the colors from the same group that these three are from – like Jellybean and Sorbet.

EOTD: Defenestrate In A Flash
Complexion, Eyeshadow - Comments (5) - October 26th, 2011

I ordered some more goodies from Silk Naturals, and they came! Shipping was very fast, I am impressed. Among other things, I ordered Defenestrate, because the color looks awesome and I like the name. Today I used it with Flash because I thought they’d look pretty together.

Defenestrate (which means to throw something out a window) is a reddish plum color with coppery golden hightlights. It is so pretty!! I used it together with Flash, a shimmery light sand color. I love how it turned out! I’m using Detrivore’s Lobotomy to highlight.

On my cheeks I have Silk Naturals’ blush in Babydoll. One thing is different today, I’m wearing liquid foundation instead of my usual powder mineral makeup. I realized I have almost an entire bottle of my favorite Chanel Pro Lumiere that really needs to get used, so I’m going to be alternating it with my powder.

I’m wearing Morgana Cryptoria Galaxy lip balm, and totally got a compliment at the bank on it. Yay for fun lip colors!

More Silk Naturals Pretties!
Complexion, Eyeshadow, Reviews - Comments (3) - October 8th, 2011

I had to do more conservative makeup today, due to a professional obligation, so I decided to play with some more Silk Naturals! While they do have lots of bright colors on their website, I must say I’m really loving how pretty these neutrals turn out.

My eyeshadow in the picture is Phantom and Glory. Phantom is a very light, almost sheer pearl pink with pearlescent golden highlights. It is amazingly pretty. Glory has a base of taupe with golden highlights and glints of green, copper, peach, and gold. It’s glimmery, yes, but not over the top nuts. If you wear it on a sticky base, the glitter will show up more. Since I was going for a “less” look today, I didn’t use a sticky base. But I love that this color is so versatile! Also, I totally got a compliment on my eye makeup from an employee at Sephora.

My cheeks are Babydoll blush. Babydoll is a slightly shimmery pink, that looks bright in the jar but goes on more sheer. It’s a very flattering color!

I’m just super-impressed with the Silk Naturals products I’ve tried. Everything is very high quality and wearable. I highly recommend them!

Silk Naturals Eyeshadow & Lip Gloss Fun!
Eyeshadow, Hot Lips, Reviews - Comments Off - September 30th, 2011

I recently had the opportunity to try out some products from Silk Naturals, which I want to share with you! I’ve been playing with their eyeshadows, and a yummy lip product called Kisser Slicker Lipgloss. Everything is really nice!

So far I’ve played with eyeshadows in Cupcake, Tailfeather, Heat, and Chestnut. All the eyeshadows had excellent pigmentation and wearability. I used them over Urban Decay Primer Potion and had no issues with fading or creasing.

Cupcake is a beautiful sparkly pink color. It’s really sparkly! I wore it with Chestnut, which is a really nice coppery-brown that is no longer available (I got it from a friend). The formula for these shadows is really nice and smooth. They blended really well together. Use Cupcake with some kind of “glitter glue” for extra sparkliness!

Heat is deep coppery orange tone with a silky pearl finish. According to the website, Silky Pearls have a bit more silica in them to give them a silky soft touch, great blending abilities, and a little bit of a soft-focus look. I agree! Heat was delightfully blendable. Tailfeather is a blend of gold, brown, and copper, which turns into a lovely neutral shade. Together, this was a fun autumn look.

The Kisser Slicker Lip Glosses are a cool product. They come in a tube like a lip balm, and are moisturizing like a lip balm, but have color like a gloss and a more glossy finish than a lip balm. It’s a nice formula, containing some of my favorite nourishing oils like jojoba and avocado oils. The color I’m wearing is Sugar – a very light pink with just a hint of tan. It’s a sheer, your lips but better color on me. I love it! I want to try more of these nifty lipglosses-in-a-stick!

Overall, my initial impression of Silk Naturals is great! All the products are a very lovely quality. They are nicely packaged and labeled. I have blushes and the Stick’Em Eyeshadow Enhancer yet to try! Look for more Silk Naturals reviews soon!
