EOTD: Grey Skies
Eyeshadow, Hot Lips - Comments (7) - March 1st, 2012

The weather has been a little crazy, with actual snow hitting the ground last night (although it didn’t last past mid-morning). So this eye makeup is dedicated to grey skies and late winter cold dreariness. I used some more Brazen colors, and went with a nice bright lip color to offset all the grey.

The color on the lid is Iced, from Brazen Cosmetics. Iced is a sparkly light grey color, and I love how opaque it is. It’s really a great color! The crease color is Label Whore from Too Faced, a dark grey-brown with a strong green-blue iridescence. I just LOVE this color and always forget I have it (although I have several that are quite similar). I used Ice Princess, a limited edition color from Pumpkin & Poppy to highlight. I really wish I’d written about this color sooner, just so you readers still had a chance to buy it! edited to add: It’s a permanent color now! Go get it! It’s so pretty, a creamy white with gold, orange and red duochrome with silver sparkle. It’s a really pretty highlight color. As long as I was digging out sadly neglected products, I chose my BADgal kohl liner pencil from Benefit to use on the upper and lower lashline. BADgal isn’t as dark and rich on the waterline as kohl powder, but it’s easier to use and almost as good.

I decided to use Millenium eyeshadow (also from Brazen) on my cheeks, for something more subtle than blush. Millenium is a beautiful pink champagne color that gives a nice sheen on the cheeks. It worked nicely since I was planning on doing a bold lip color and I didn’t want it to be too much with the dark eye makeup.

The lip gloss is Brazen’s Paint The Town, from their collection of glosses inspired by cocktails. Isn’t it HAWT?!? It’s a hot raspberry pink with purple sparkles and color shifting glitter. It tastes like a red headed slut, yum! (LOL.)

What are your favorite colors to wear on a nasty, wintry day?

More Makeup Stuff… Pretty!
Makeup Fun, Shopping - Be the first to comment! - July 21st, 2009

cb-candelightAnd the fall makeup lines keep coming… Where’s is my money tree??

Check out this eyeshadow palette from Tarte, the Femme Fatale Eye Palette. Can you say Oooooooh? It has 10 eyeshadows and an eyeliner, and a double-ended makeup brush, and comes in a resuable purple case that’s magnetized to hold refills. The colors are perfect for a smokey eye or any dramatic look. Score!

But that’s not all. In case the Femme Fatale is too much for your taste, check out Tarte’s Femme Naturale. This one also has 10 shadows, eyeliner, brush, resuable case, yadda yadda yadda, but the shades are more neutral and earthy. Both palettes feature eyeshadow formulas free of parabens, mineral oil, synthetic fragrances, and other stuff you may not want in your makeup.

I need a new luminizer like a fish needs a bicycle, but I can’t help but be full of admiration for Too Faced’s Absolutely Invisible Candlelight Powder. This translucent powder is infused with illuminating gold powder to set makeup while imparting a soft-focused glow. I want a soft-focused glow! Bring it! The formula also has anti-oxidants like Vitamin C and pomegranate extract, as well as chamomile to soothe your skin. Want!

When it comes to makeup brushes, I usually dislike double-ended ones. I store my brushes upright in brush holders and pencil cups, so double ended brushes are a pain to store. But for travel… I love them! Check out this new brush from Sephora that features a powder brush on one end and an eyeshadow brush on the other. For a short or casual trip, it could be the only brush you need! I want one. Plus, I love the bright red bristles!

What are you lusting after right now?

Makeup & Perfume Stuff I Want
Shopping - Comments (2) - July 15th, 2009

MakeupThere’s a new stuff at Sephora that I am wanting (and not having any money for, sigh).

Don’t these new body sprays from Tocca sound good? I think Aqua Profumata Salina (Clove, Orange, Green Leaf, Purple Freesia, Iris, Peach, Raspberry, Musk) and Aqua Profumata Amalfi (Cucumber, Mint, Apple, Jasmine, Violet Leaves, Lily of the Valley, Violet, Musk) sound the best.

I think this palette from Too Faced is so pretty! It’s the Natural Eye Neutral Eye Shadow Collection, with nine pretty colors. I don’t usually like neutrals, but this palette looks really appealing. Also, Too Faced’s shadows are great quality and always look good.

These new Sephora brand eyeshadows are so pretty, and the colors are nice and bright. Me wants!

New ‘Do
Hair Care, Makeup Fun - Be the first to comment! - March 21st, 2009

ClaireI finally made up my mind to cut my hair today. I used to wear it like this, for years, before I decided to grow it long a couple of years ago. Quite honestly, the long hair never felt like me, so I decided to go back to the short style I used to wear.

There’s a lot of reasons I love short hair. The first is that styling is a snap! I just towel it dry, use a little Aveda Light Elements Styling Whip to piece it up, and voila!Instant hairstyle. I was a big Control Paste fan until I discovered the Styling Whip, and I haven’t found anything else I like as much. The original Jonathan Dirt is okay too, but a little greasy sometimes. I also love to mess with my hair color, and having it short means low-commitment. If I’m tired of the color, it’s gone in two or three months, all cut off. I think first up is a cherry-brown color.

The downside is I can’t go more than about 6 weeks without having a cut, and 5 weeks is ideal. It’s not a low-maintenance look where upkeep is concerned, just in my daily routine. This is okay though, because I like going to the salon and being pampered.

In this picture, I’m wearing my new MAC Aquavert eyeshadow, along with an old favorite Too Faced Label Whore. Label Whore reminds me a lot of MAC Club, the color the SA demoed for me yesterday, a brown color with green shimmer. Label Whore has more of a teal shimmer but it’s still pretty greenish to me. I’ll do it again soon and take a closeup picture – they look good together.

Happy Day!

More Gifts! Palettes To Love
Makeup Fun, Shopping - Be the first to comment! - November 20th, 2008

UD Book Of ShadowsI love palettes, especially eyeshadow palettes and face/eye combos. I’m not much of a fan of ones that include lip colors just because I always seem to get powder in the lip parts and it looks gross. Plus, who wants to carry the whole thing with you during the day to retouch your lips? If they’re small enough to carry in my purse, I make an exception though – especially if the colors are versatile enough to go from day to night.

First up is Too Faced’s Glamour To Go palette, which includes eight eye shadows, four lip glosses, and a blush. This one is small enough to carry, and the shades have lights and darks – good for day, then glam it up for night without going home to touch up your face! Love it! Plus, at under $20 the price is right.

The Cargo PlantLove Green Goddess palette is full of pretty shades, and the formulas are great for women with sensitive skin. I wants!

Sephora still has this Smashbox set still in stock, so I’m mentioning it again – it’s the Pink Power Eye & Lip kit, and it’s SO PRETTY! Do up your eyes in the morning, and take the lip set to go with you! *sigh* I want this one too.

This Fresh palette (Island Reverie) isn’t new, but it would also make a great gift. The shades are perfect for a soft look, and Fresh’s quality is great.

I love this combo set from LORAC because the glosses are separate in their own tubes! This is a great one for travel, with sixteen eyeshadows, a highlighter, bronzer, two blushes and three lipglosses. Bring your own mascara and you’d be set! Plus, the colors are flattering for a variety of skin tones.

Urban Decay tempts with two offerings this year: the Book of Shadows (sixteen eyeshadows, two premium brushes, and a travel-size Eyeshadow Primer Potion) and the Sustainable Shadow Box (ten shadows, a brush, and a travel-sized Eyeshadow Primer Potion). The Book of Shadows wouldn’t travel well since it’s huge, but the other one would. The colors in both are typical bright, stunning UD colors. On their website, UD is offering a great set called Urban Essentials, with a full sized Goddess shadow, a full sized Midnight Cowboy shadow, and an extra large Eyeshadow Primer Potion. Since Primer Potion is only THE BEST PRIMER EVER, this set would rock.

Not wanting to neglect cool indie brands, do check out Skinn Dimitri James’ Luxe Premier Eyeshadow Palette. I’ve been very impressed with the eyeshadows from this brand. They go on silky-smooth, the color payoff is great, and they wear as well as any other high quality brand. Plus, these colors are so pretty!  The Patina Eye Shadow palettes are awesome too – I have the one pictured, and would like the others.

Getaway Makeup
Makeup Fun - Comments (0) - September 27th, 2007

Beach SceneI’m back from my little getaway trip to the Oregon Coast with my hubby, and was it ever nice. It was just two nights, and we weren’t planning on any dining that required dressing up, so I planned for some low key makeup.

For these quick trips (or really any travelling) I love combination palettes. In the past, Sephora has made some really nice ones, two of which I own. These have six eyeshadows, a blush, and a highlighter. It’s a nice slim palette too, so it’s easy to pack. To this I added a couple of brushes (basic eyeshadow and crease brush, blush brush, and powder brush in my slim brush tube), compact powder, mascara, eyelash curler, neutral eye pencil (brown in this case), and tinted moisturizer. It sounds like a lot, but it all packs down nicely into a small makeup bag.

With this, I have options. I know I was planning on low-key makeup, but on the chance that I might decide to glam it up for dinner out, it’s good to be prepared.

I don’t know how thin it is (probably not very, since it’s double-decker) but this new palette from LORAC looks amazing. Eight eyeshadows, two blushes, two lip colors, a mascara and a brush – it sounds perfect for a trip! It’s definitely on my wish list.

Stila also has some nice eyeshadow/blush sets, as does Tarte. Too Faced Quickie Chronicles are another favorite of mine, and I really want this one. Too Faced seems to be laying on the cute palettes this fall – check this one out.

Get some travel-sized hair and body care, or bottles to decant your own, and you are set! Bon Voyage!

I Heart Too Faced
Eyeshadow, Makeup Fun - Be the first to comment! - December 31st, 2006

TooFacedI’m a big fan of Too Faced‘s eyeshadows. They have some of the most interesting color combinations, and who can resist the tongue-in-cheek names?

I’m excited because they have some new colors coming. You can check them out at Beauty.com. I especially like Hollywood Ho-Down and Mommy Dearest.

In case you’re a fan, Too Faced is also introducing three new shades of Lip Injection, and several new palettes. Cute!!
